OCULAR PATHOLOGY OF HYPEROPIC PATIENTS PRESENTING TO THE TERTIARY HEALTH CARE CENTRE

Purpose:To study the ocular pathology of hyperopic patients presenting to tertiary health care centre. Methods: This was a retrospective observational that involved 60 eyes 30 with hypermetropia complaining diminution vision asthenopic symptoms like tiredness eyes, frontal or frontotemporal headache, watering and mild photophobia. There were three groups based on criteria age, i.e, <20 years, 20-40 40-60 years each group comprising 10 patients. Complete ophthalmic examination done in diffuse light followed by direct indirect opthalmoscopic examination. Results:There 15 males females. The common hypermetropiarelated findings varying between age 0-20 strabismus amblyopia. Recurrent styes, recurrent blepharitis infection, chalazion seen equal proportions all groups. Primary open angle glaucoma closure reported more adults ranging years.Fundus high hypermetropic revealed small optic disc ill defined margins simulating papillitis which is pseudopapillitis because there no swelling retina shines due greater brilliance reflections giving shot silk appearance retina. Conclusion:Hyperopia also termed farsightedness, refractive error children adults. Its effect an individual produced varies greatly, depending magnitude hyperopia, individual, status accommodative convergence system, demands placed visual system. Individuals uncorrected hyperopia may experience such as blurred vision, asthenopia (e.g., headaches eyestrain) while reading, accommodative/binocular dysfunction, amblyopia, and/or strabismus. Furthermore, amblyopia case can lead various complications glaucoma, uveal effusion syndrome, non arteritic anterior ischemic neuropathy, central serous chorioretinopathy, related macular degeneration, etc.
